HALO ACCESS TO WORK

Support Workers and Access to Work.

If there are tasks that an individual can’t do because of their disability or health condition such as taking notes in meetings or navigating the building, Access to Work may pay for the costs of a Support Worker.

In order for the individual to get a Support Worker they must complete an approximate timesheet for the tasks they need help with.

Examples of this could be:

A person with a severe sight impairment who works for an advocacy service may need support from a Support Worker to:

  • Assist them to travel to and from venues

  • Assist them to navigate unfamiliar environments

  • Assist them with note taking

  • Assist with proofreading

  • Assist with other visual tasks which may arise within the job role. It should be noted that the client must note down the hours it takes to do each task and how the support worker will aid in the completion of these tasks.

HALO ACCESS TO WORK

Once you have applied

Once you have filled out the initial Access to Work form using any of the methods mentioned above you should expect to hear back within a short length of time I.E one-two weeks.

If successful you will assigned an Access to Work Adviser, who will contact you to discuss your application in more detail.

This is likely to include:

  • the applicant’s employer’s details

  • the applicant’s employer’s details

  • information regarding the applicant’s disability or health condition as well as covering Access to work’s obligations to the applicant and the employer

The Access to Work adviser will contact the applicant’s employer I.E the manager to get permission to carry out the Access to Work assessment.

You will need to acquire and provide three separate quotes for Support Workers. This will include a quote from Halo Staffing if you wish for us to support you. Please get in touch to gain your quote here

Once permission is obtained from the employer the applicant may be contacted by an external assessment company via email or phone to arrange a time and date for the Access to Work Assessment.  Which will be carried out by them on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP.)

On the day of the assessment the applicant will be contacted by an assessor, who will go through a series of questions with the applicant to determine what support and equipment they may need to effectively carry out their job.  It is at this stage that a Support Worker and additional equipment may be put forward as a suggestion to the DWP.

After the assessment the assessor will write up a report and send it along with the recommendations to Access to Work.  It is estimated that the applicant will hear back from the DWP within two-three weeks with a decision on their claim.

HALO ACCESS TO WORK

Final Stage

Once a decision has been made Access to Work will contact both the applicant and their manager by post, however if this format is not accessible for the applicant they may need to phone Access to Work and request the information in a different format.

The letters will outline the decision made by Access to Work and the next steps to be taken.  It is at this stage that the hours of support will be finalised as it may not be the number of hours originally requested by the applicant.  It is also at this stage that the applicant will find-out what if any equipment they will be receiving.  If any equipment has been granted it will then be the responsibility of the employer to order the equipment to the place of work.  Having said that it is the responsibility of the individual to inform Halo Staffing regarding decisions made abut Support Worker hours and any changes to these.
