Preparing for an interview can feel daunting. Our top tips will make you feel more at ease and help you stand out from the crowd! 

Before the Interview 

Preparation is key. Here’s what you should do: 

Research the company 
  • Find out what their values are, what services they provide, the company mission.  
Understand the role 
  • Read the job description carefully and think about examples from your experience that match the skills they’re after. 

 

Prepare questions 

Asking questions shows you’re genuinely interested. For example: 

“What does a typical day look like in this role?” 

“How does the company support staff development?” 

 

Practice answers 

Be ready for common questions like: 

“Tell me about yourself.” 

“Why do you want this job?” 

“Can you share an example of how you handled a challenging situation?” 

 

On the Day of the Interview 

Dress appropriately 

  • Aim for smart, professional attire that fits the workplace vibe. 
  • For health and social care roles, neat and practical is often the best approach. 

Arrive on time 

  • Plan your route and aim to arrive 10-15 minutes early 

Bring essentials 

  • A copy of your CV, references, and any requested documents 
  • A notepad and pen can be useful for jotting down key points 

 

During the Interview 

  • Be polite and positive 
  • Greet everyone with a smile 
  • Speak clearly and maintain good eye contact 

Listen carefully 

  • Make sure you understand the question before answering. Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification if needed 

Show enthusiasm 

  • Highlight what excites you about the role and the company 

Personalise your examples 

  • For health and social care, focus on your ability to be empathetic, patient, and organised 
  • For other roles, emphasise relevant skills like teamwork, communication, or problem-solving 

Ask questions 

  • End the interview by showing your curiosity and eagerness to learn more
