Do You Have a Personal Development Plan?

Do you have a personal development plan? Are you trying to start one but not sure how?

Creating a personal development plan is something that everyone should take advantage of in order to continue to stay on track with goals, develop skills and increase knowledge. Setting a personal development plan isn't something that everyone finds easy to do. Below you can find out what a personal development plan is, how you can create one and how to make sure you are using it correctly.

What is a personal development plan?

A personal development plan, otherwise known as a PDP, is a written plan of self-improvement either in your daily home or work life. However, PDPs are mainly used in a working environment. PDPs are used to outline current and future goals, the steps that you will need to reach these goals, when you want to achieve them and how you can stay on track to do so.

How to create a PDP and stick to it?

What goals do you have for the new year? What areas of your life would you like to see an improvement in? Here is how you can do just that by creating a personal development plan. The first thing you can do is make sure that you're being intentional with the goals you wish to set and the skills you wish to develop. You can do this by tuning out any distractions, giving yourself a break when things don't go right straight away, write to do lists, ask yourself questions and remind yourself why you started in the first place.

Find the correct support, finding people who you trust that can hold you accountable to your goals is a great way to make sure you're staying on task. However, make sure you are not relying completely on other people to keep you on track, make sure you are finding effective ways that you can do this for yourself, this will not only teach you another new skill but one that is beneficial to have throughout your life.

Set goals that you know you can achieve at this point in your life but make sure you are continuing to push yourself, little by little out of your comfort zone. Don't rush when creating your PDP, as it will need to be thought about carefully to ensure that you are getting the most out of it, this however does not mean you can't continue to edit or add to it as the year goes on.

Don't be too hard on yourself and celebrate your success no matter how small. It's important that you are finding ways to celebrate your achievements, especially if it's a step in your PDP that you have been putting off or find the most challenging.

By using the above as a guideline, you can create a successful professional development plan. Get further support HERE
