Eating To Be Your Best

With increased stress and difficulty shopping and recurving online delivery slots it’s easy to fall into poor eating habits however it is more important than ever to maintain a healthy diet that will keep you feeling energised and keep your immune system in tip top condition.

Plan meals in advance

“Try planning out a few meals so you know what you need and don’t have to face the ‘what’s for dinner’ dilemma every night.” Bridget Benelam, senior nutrition scientist at the British Nutrition Foundation.

Get a wide range of nutrients

Variety is key to a healthy diet, says registered dietitian Nichola Ludlam-Raine, who suggests avoiding omitting any food groups while on lockdown unless you have an allergy.

Keep healthy snacks around

“Think cheese and apple, yoghurt and berries, nuts and dried fruit or even hummus and carrots,” she adds.

Consume oily fish

Canned oily fish in particular is a really handy item to have in your cupboard while on lockdown. It is also cheap and has a long shelf life, but it is rich in omega 3, which studies say can improve mental wellbeing.

Hydrate

“Drinking an adequate amount of fluid is essential in order for you to feel and function at your best,”

Drinking 6 to 8 cups or glasses of fluid a day is the beneficial amount as said by The Eatwell Guide.
