Feel More Confident in Your Care Role

Feel More Confident in Your Care Role

Starting a new role in health and social care can feel a bit scary at first. So, what can you do to feel confident at work? Our top tips will support you as you grow throughout your career.

  1. Ask Questions: Nobody expects you to know everything right away. If something doesn’t make sense, ask. Your colleagues have been where you are, and most are happy to help.
  2. Watch and Learn: Take time to observe others and how they complete tasks, speak to an individual they support, use equipment, or handle tough situations.
  3. Take One Step at a Time: You can easily put pressure on yourself by trying to become perfect at everything all at once. Instead, focus on building your skills on one thing at a time.
  4. Celebrate Small Wins: Did you remember something from training and used it successfully at work? Did you help an individual feel more confident and comfortable? These small moments are important, and worth celebrating.
  5. Talk About It: If you’re feeling unsure, pressured or anxious, talk to someone. It could be your manager, a co-worker, or someone else that you trust. Sharing your worries can really help.

You don’t need to be the best on day one. Confidence is something you build overtime, and you’re already on your way.
