Your CV is the first impression an employer gets of you, and in health and social care, it’s your chance to show your skills, values and who you are. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to care work or have years of experience, a good CV should be simple, and clear.
Here’s how to create a CV that stands out:
Stick to 1 to 2 pages, use plain fonts like Arial or Calibri, and avoid cramming in too much.
What to include?
- Personal details
- Full name
- Phone number
- Email address
- Location (you don’t need your full address)
Personal statement
Write 3-4 sentences about who you are, what you bring, and what kind of role you’re looking for.
Key skills
Bullet-point your top skills, make it relevant to the job role. These could include:
- Personal care
- Medication support
- Moving and handling
- Communication
- Empathy and patience
Work experience
List your most recent jobs first. Include:
- Job title
- Employer
- Dates you worked here
- A few bullet points of what you did
Don’t worry if you don’t have care experience yet, include any job that shows you’re reliable and work well with others.
Education and training
Mention relevant qualifications like:
- The Care Certificate
- First Aid or Basic Life Support
References
You can write “Available on request” or include 1-2 referees if you have them ready.
