Firstly, following the governments guidelines you will have to ask about any COVID-19 symptoms, if all is well then everyone is ready for the next stage.
As a care manager you should be able to tell agency workers information on the following:
- Who to report to on the first day
- Any IT methods that are needed to know – email, team meetings, telephone calls etc
- Who to go to for any concerns
- What are the health and safety procedures – emergency exists, fire safety, evacuations etc
- Where rubbish is kept
- Where PPE is kept
- Where the toilets are
- Where refreshment facilities are
- How to report sickness and absence
- Access to any training plans
You will also be responsible for introducing them to the rest of the staff where possible, so they are familiar with other employees.
You’ll need to confirm information on break times and go over a brief description of the role. Remember to check in on how they are doing from time to time but also provide independence, so they get use to their role within the company.
Most importantly all agency workers should be treated the same way other employees were treated when being inducted. It will also be your responsibility and the rest of the staff’s responsibility to ensure that agency workers are not discriminated against, and all their rights are upheld.
