Is 2026 the Year You Deal with Personality Clashes?

Is 2026 the Year You Deal with Personality Clashes?

If there’s one issue leaders often put off addressing, its personality clashes. Not because they don’t matter but because many people simply don’t know how to address them.

These situations rarely start with open conflict. More often, they build up quietly through miscommunication, frustration or different working styles clashing with one another when pressure rises. In care settings where teamwork and trust are much needed skills, unresolved tension can quickly affect both staff wellbeing and the quality of care.

Addressing personality clashes doesn’t mean assigning blame or forcing people to get along. It starts with clarity. Clear expectations around professional behaviour, communication, and respect give everyone a shared baseline, even if personalities differ.

Early conversations matter. A calm, private discussion that focuses on behaviours rather than personal traits can prevent issues from escalating. For example, addressing how information is shared on shift or how decisions are communicated is often more productive than discussing personalities themselves.

I’s also important to recognise that differences can be strengths when managed well. Some staff are direct, others more reflective. Some thrive on routine, others adapt quickly. Helping your team members understand these differences can reduce frustration and improve collaboration.

When clashes continue, structured support can help. Supervision or targeted training around communication and teamwork can give staff the tools they need to move forward. Leaders don’t have to resolve everything alone, but they do set the tone for how issues are handled.

If 2026 is the year you want to move away from unresolved tension and towards healthier working relationships, support is available. We work with care services to strengthen teams through training support and practical training that improves communication and understanding. You can find out more about the services we provide, like training, HERE.
