Long Covid can affect anyone, anywhere. Research shows that a range of symptoms are often still present after contracting COVID-19. Long Covid symptoms can include sleep disturbances, muscle pain, concentration problems and headaches, to name a few. Long Covid can leave people experiencing symptoms of PTSD.
All the symptoms that come with Long Covid can affect the respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems. A diagram that can be seen on The BMJ adds more in-depth detail about what can be affected and the way this is presented. For example, long covid can cause damage to the brain, leaving people with ‘brain fog’, delirium, fatigue, sleep disturbances and depression/anxiety/PTSD/OCS.
There is currently no known treatment for Long Covid. However, prevention is key and the most effective way to prevent both COVID-19 and Long Covid is to get vaccinated. As well as continuing to follow rules such as rules surrounding masks and social distancing, we can all continue to do our bit to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
