New COVID-19 Drug

New COVID-19 Drug

This new drug is designed to help the most vulnerable of society against Covid and all known variants, including omicron, which initial tests have found.

Sotrovimab is a monoclonal antibody given as a transfusion to transplant recipients, cancer patients and other high-risk groups. When giving as quickly as possible when symptoms are first found then it should help with preventing further damage with people falling seriously ill.

As said by BBC News, most current Covid treatments so far are aimed at people already in hospital with Covid. Since then, treatments such as sotrovimab is aimed at people with developing symptoms, this will also help healthcare industries as it will work towards decreasing the amount of hospital admissions, taking some amount of pressure away that is forced to those in healthcare services when dealing with COVID-19.

Initial trials have found that this new drug is able to reduce risk of hospitalisation in high-risk patients by 79% and as this drug has now been approved, there are over one million at risk patients eligible of receiving the sotrovimab drug.

This is among one of the few alternatives for protection against COVID-19. With hopes that the upcoming options such as this one will further provide a peace of mind to those who are vulnerable and help ease the on-going pressure facing the NHS.
