Preparing for Flu Season

Preparing for Flu Season

As the weather continues to turn colder and flu season begins, you’ll start to find yourself balancing day-to-day pressures alongside the added challenge of protecting both staff and service users from flu.

Flu season typically runs from October to March, and early preparations can make all the difference in keeping everyone happy and healthy.

What Can You Do Right Now?

  • Encourage flu vaccinations early – NHS flu jabs are free for frontline health and social care staff. Try sending out a quick email to remind staff of free NHS flu jabs.
  • Check infection control practices – For some it can be easy to let habits slip. Make sure handwashing stations are stocked and that PPE is readily available.
  • Plan for absence – Short-term staff illness can hit hard, especially amongst smaller teams. Have a clear rota backup plan and a reliable staffing partner, such as, Halo Staffing. Find out how we can help support you and your team HERE!
  • Encourage communication – If someone feels unwell, make it clear they can report symptoms early without feeling pressured to work through illness.

Flu can spread quickly in care settings, but a proactive approach keeps risk low.
