We all feel nervous from time to time when getting ready to attend an interview. Here are some things you can do to ease that pressure.
Make sure to always be prepared for the interview, create some answers to possible questions that will be asked, you can even make some notes before it starts to better ready yourself.
Halo Staffing’s top tips on preparing for interviews:
- Research the company you are applying for.
- Prepare yourself to be ready for answering common interview questions.
- Make the most of the “tell me about yourself” question, it’s a great opportunity for the employer know what kind of worker you are. Aim for about three traits that can also reflect your enthusiasm to work for the company.
- Make sure you are on time for the interview, arrive 10 minutes early or if it’s online make sure you press to join about 5 minutes before the start time.
- Remember to ask a few questions throughout the interview, really show you’re paying attention and interested in the role.
- If you are not offered the position, it could be useful to ask why you weren’t – what happened in the interview stage for you to stop being considered as a potential candidate.
- Speak with energy – again show you’re interested in the role you are applying for and the company you’d be joining.
- There is also no harm in writing a thank you letter a little while after the end of the interview.
If you don’t get the job you applied for, don’t be too hard on yourself. Rejection comes with possibilities to learn and grow.
How to handle job rejection:
Getting turned down from a job happens to everyone. Being unsuccessful in securing the job you wanted through interview or application is a good opportunity to think about what went well and what didn’t.
Spend some time reflecting on aspects of the interview or job application noting what you came up with. DO this as soon after your interview as possible, your memory will fade and there will be lots about the interview that you will forget.
Think about how you can change the ‘negative’ points into positive ones. There will always be positive points to take away so be proud of yourself! Rejection is the first step in employment progress.
We recommend that you always ask for detailed feedback about your application and following your interview and make sure to listen, don’t ask just because you feel it’s the right thing to do, really take something away from it.
Think about the learning experience that comes with the rejection. Or maybe the job just wasn’t ideal for you. There is the perfect job waiting for you just around the corner.
