Making a change takes time and when you first start creating new habits you may feel as if something is going wrong or get frustrated that you haven’t reached your desired outcome yet. These changes won’t happen overnight, they need to be implemented into your daily routine so that you can work towards these habits.
A great way to make sure this is happening is by writing your intentions down. When you make a list of your goals your priorities become clear, which in turn helps you to focus on them and when you’re focused on your goals you are more likely to reach them.
Remember, you don’t have to focus on all these goals at once, just focusing on specific goal and staying consistent is a great place to start.
So how can you stay consistent?
Creating new habits has many benefits such as:
- Help you to reach your present and future goals
- Help to increase the overall quality of life
- Increases your productivity
- Helps you to clarify what your values are
- Helps you to identify what changes you’d like to see
When creating new habits it can be easy to lose motivation, here are a few steps you can take to ensure this doesn’t happen.
Firstly, it’s important to find what your motivation is, what inspires you? what allows you to be your very best? What gives you energy? Ask yourself questions such as the one’s listed and figure out how you can incorporate the answers to these questions into your new habits.
If your new habits are time limited then make sure you’re setting regular reminders so that you stay on task with the habits you wish to create.
Finding the right support is key. If your new habit is something that you find challenging to start with then a possible idea could be to start or complete the habit with someone else. This doesn’t have to mean that they need to do the same habit as you but having someone there with you for support is a great way to boost your mood and encourage you.
Just like bad habits, good habits can become ingrained. It may take time, but the outcome is worth it. Making the change from a bad to good habit can be challenging which is why replacing lost needs from old habits is important. A good place to start with this is removing any temptation that may course you to go back to your old habits.
Make repeating your new habits fun, when you are having fun with a task or goal it makes you want to do it another day. – possibly add more here when put in
Making a change and making progress means at some point you will come across various obstacles that may interfere with the plans you have set out for creating your new habits but don’t let it stop you! Failing means there is room for learning and improvement.
Finally, remember to remind yourself of why you started, so why did you? write it down and remind yourself of that reason every time you feel like giving up. You’re going in the right direction.
