Halo Staffing is an equal opportunity employer. We work tirelessly to ensure that no staff member, service or applicant receives less favourable treatment. We are proud of our strong values and high expectations and of the extraordinary impact that we can have.
Kristina joined Halo Staffing this year and is making an incredible difference in supporting services with consistent, reliable and quality staffing solutions.
Kristina says, “When you have a disability, you are automatically given certain negative stereotypes and labels that can affect the way you look at work let alone how employers view a disabled applicant.
Right from the start of my application for Halo, I was very shocked and pleasantly surprised with the outcome and the way that I was viewed and treated the same as any other applicant.
I was used to employers being deterred when they learned of my sight loss.
However, Scott, Managing Director was not one of these people. When I told him I was blind, I was fully expecting him to grow cautious and weary like many others before. However, he reassured me that my sight loss would not be an issue and that’s one of the reasons that I am glad to be working for Halo Staffing.
Right at the beginning, I was very nervous and scared of being too slow or doing anything wrong because not only did I want to combat the stereotypes of people with disabilities, but I also wanted to show Scott that he made a right decision to give me a chance.
Like anyone starting their first job, I wanted to make a good impression and keep up but there were some obstacles that I encountered such as certain sections of the training not being accessible for me but when I mentioned these obstacles to Scott and any others I came across, he would take the time out to sit and go through the sections that were not accessible for me.
This really meant a lot as it boosted my confidence and allowed me to find different ways around to deal with these obstacles.
One such obstacle was that there were certain sections of the system I could not access without specialist screen reader software. I also struggled to take notes whilst on calls with clients. This was once again resolved by Scott who gave me access to my calls which would allow me to concentrate on the call but at the same time would give me a chance to write up the notes after the call without the struggle to listen to two different things at the same time, while waiting for the specialist screen reader software and my support worker to be implemented.
Although it took some time to sort out my Access to Work and the support I required, I am now seven months into my role and carrying out my job effectively due to the support of Scott and the amazing team at Halo Staffing. I am also grateful of my support worker through Access to Work who assists me with visual tasks.
It is a true honour to work for a company that embodies the values that we stand for.”
