Welcome to the Halo Staffing eLearning course for Standard 1 – Understanding Your Role, of the Care Certificate. In this course, we will be taking you through the basics of what you’ll need to know in order to understand your role in the workforce.

We will start off with covering what your main duties and responsibilities may be, the Code of Conduct for healthcare workers, how to find out what the agreed ways of working are in your workplace, and how your history may change the way you work.

From there, we’ll move into working with your employer, covering your employment rights and responsibilities, the aims, objectives and values of the service, working in the ways agreed with your employer, having up-to-date knowledge on those ways, how to escalate concerns, and honesty in error reporting.

The third section will cover your responsibilities to individuals you support, the difference between a working relationship and a personal relationship, and the different types of working relationships.

Finally, we’ll move on to why it is important to work with others, both with other workers and with those close to an individual you are caring for, what you can do to improve working with others, and how to resolve conflicts.

Is this for me? 

This course has been carefully designed for anyone who wants to learn more about Understanding your role. As Standard 1 of the Care Certificate this course is suitable for carers, support workers, nurses and managers who need to complete the Skills for Care Standard. Completing this course will ensure that you are fully up to date with relevant content to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in your field. On successful completion of this course, you will be issued with a certificate and digital badge valid for 1 year.

Why should I take this course? 

You should take this course if it’s necessary for you or your team to understand what the main roles and responsibilities within your job role are. Keeping in line with Skills for Care and the key legislation such as the Health and Safety Act 1974 and General Data Protection Regulation 2020.

What will I learn? 

This course will provide you and/or your team with an understanding of what the agreed ways of working are, what is involved in your role, what your rights and responsibilities are in your job role, what you can do to improve working with others, how to resolve conflicts and understanding the care certificate and code of conduct. You will also learn why it’s important to work with other workers and those close to an individual you are caring for.
