Welcome to the Halo Staffing eLearning course for Standard 12 – Basic Life Support of the Care Certificate. In this course we’ll take you through everything you’ll need to know to have an appropriate awareness of basic life support duties in an emergency.
Topics that will be covered include how to identify a casualty, carry out a primary survey, the recovery position, how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children, and infants; what to do if the casualty has an obstructed airway and airway maintenance, and record keeping after being involved in an incident.

Is this for me?Â
This course has been carefully designed for anyone who wants to learn more about Basic Life Support. As Standard 12 of the Care Certificate this course is suitable for carers, support workers, nurses and managers who need to complete the Skills for Care Standard. Completing this course will ensure that you are fully up to date with relevant content to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in your field. On successful completion of this course, you will be issued with a certificate and digital badge valid for 1 year.
This course is not a replacement for a First Aid course, and you should be a certified first aider before attempting to assist with a casualty. You can find our Emergency First Aid and Basic Life Support (Blended Course) HERE.
Why should I take this course?Â
You should take this course if it’s necessary for you or your team to keep and protect people from harm and abuse and if it’s important that you know what the appropriate awareness of basic life support duties in an emergency are. Keeping in line with Skills for Care and the key legislation such as the Equality Act 2010, Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Health and Safety Regulations 1981 and the General Data Protection Regulation 2016.Â
What will I learn?Â
This course will provide you and/or your team with an understanding of how to carry out basic life support, how to carry out a primary survey, how to perform CPR depending on the age of the casualty, how to put someone in the recovery position and what legislation surrounds basic life support. You will also learn how to assist someone who is chocking, depending on their age.Â
