Aim: To understand more on how to protect people safe from harm and abuse in a health care setting.

Objectives:

By successfully completing this course you will be able to:

  • Understand what constitutes harm, abuse and neglect and be able to identify any signs of harm, abuse, or neglect
  • List what actions to take if they have concerns, including to whom you should report your concerns and from whom to seek advice
  • Describe what is meant by effective advocacy
  • Identify your professional role, responsibilities, and professional boundaries and those of your colleagues in a multidisciplinary team and multi-agency setting
  • List the risk factors for radicalisation and know who to contact regarding preventive action and supporting those persons who may be at risk of, or are being drawn into, terrorist related activity
  • Describe how to maintain appropriate records including being able differentiate between fact and opinion
  • Identify the appropriate and relevant information and how to share it with other teams
  • Document safeguarding concerns in a format that informs the relevant staff and agencies appropriately
  • Identify how and when to refer to social care in accordance with organisational policies if you have identified an adult safeguarding concern

Description

Welcome to the Halo Staffing course on Safeguarding Adults. This course has been designed according to the guidelines of Skills for Health.

We begin this course with an explanation of harm, abuse and neglect and inform you of the signs to look out for.

We will then list the actions to be taken if you have any concerns, including to whom you should report your concerns and from whom to seek advice.

The next topic informs you about effective advocacy and how to provide it where required (for example where there are mental capacity or communication issues, in line with the legislation and professional guidance)

The following topic is about Identifying your professional role, responsibilities, and professional boundaries and those of your colleagues in a multidisciplinary team and multi-agency setting.

After that we will List the risk factors for radicalisation and know who to contact regarding preventive action and supporting those persons who may be at risk of, or are being drawn into, terrorist related activity.

We then move on to describing how to maintain appropriate records including being able differentiate between fact and opinion.

The next topic is about Identifying the appropriate and relevant information and how to share it with other teams.

Following that, we will inform you how to document safeguarding concerns in a format that informs the relevant staff and agencies appropriately.

The last topic is about Identifying how and when to refer to social care in accordance with organisational policies if you have identified an adult safeguarding concern.
