Aim: To perform basic first aid in an emergency situation at work.

Objectives: 

By successfully completing this blended course you will be able to:

  • Explain the definition of First Aid
  • Identify the 3 priorities of First Aid
  • Describe the importance of preventing cross infection
  • Explain and demonstrate how to assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency
  • Explain and demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious but breathing
  • Explain and demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and not breathing
  • Explain and demonstrate how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Explain the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Explain what seizures are and demonstrate how to provide first aid to an individual who is suffering from them
  • Explain and demonstrate how to help an individual who is choking
  • Explain and demonstrate how to provide first aid for wounds, bleeding, burns, scalds, shock, and issues with blood circulation
  • Describe the need for record keeping

Course Duration:

Face-2-Face session will be delivered at your location for up to 12 attendees. Cost of this course is for all 12 attendees.

Online learning: 2 hours.

Face-2-Face practical session:  8 hours.

Total training equivalent to 1 day course.

 

Description

Welcome to the Halo Staffing blended course on emergency first aid at work (EFAW). This course has been designed according to the guidelines of Resuscitation council UK, Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Health and Safety First Aid Regulations and the requirements of Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR).

In addition to the eLearning material, you must also attend the face-to-face session of this course.

We will first define what first aid is.

We will then inform you about the 3 priorities of a first aider.

We then move on to understanding the importance of preventing cross infection.

From there we will discuss how to assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency.

We then inform you how to administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious.

The next section will be about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

This will be followed by information about the use of automated external defibrillator (AED).

The next section will be about seizures and the role of the first aider in assisting an individual who is suffering from them.

From there we move on to discussing  how to help an individual who is choking.

The following section will inform you how to provide first aid for wounds, bleeding, burns, scalds, shock, and issues with blood circulation.

We will conclude the course with a discussion on record keeping.

Successful completion of this course will allow you to go on to attend First Aid at Work (FAW) blended course and gain first aider at work status. On successful completion of this course you will be issued with a certificate and digital badge valid for 3 years.
