    • Explain how to promote positive behaviour and reduce behaviours that challenge

    • Describe the factors, motives and functions that contribute to challenging behaviours in the workplace
    • Understand how to create individual behaviour support plans based on functional behaviour assessments and identified goals
    • Explain the ethical aspects of positive behaviour support
    • Explain the importance of considering the person and his or her life circumstances, including physical health and emotional needs such as the impact of any traumatic or adverse life events and mental illness
    • Describe how to design strategies to reduce the occurrence of behaviours that challenge through proactive approaches
    • Demonstrate effective communication skills to engage staff, families, and stakeholders in positive behaviour support initiatives
    • Explain the importance of collaborating with staff to ensure consistent implementation of behaviour support plans
    • Describe how to reduce the likelihood of behaviours that challenge by creating physical and social environments that are supportive and capable of meeting people’s needs
    • Describe preventative approach that aims to teach people new skills to replace behaviours that challenge – and other skills that enhance the opportunities people have for being independent
    • Explain the importance of involving input from different professionals including multiple evidence-based approaches and treatments that come from a shared value base and are provided in a coordinated and person-centred manner
    • Explain how and when to use active support and appropriate interventions that support physical, mental health and wellbeing
