Description

Welcome to the Halo Staffing Medication Administration eLearning course.

We will begin this course with an explanation of the concept of medicines and their safe administration.

The next two sections of the course will be about the importance of confidentiality and consent within a health and social care setting.

We will also explore the importance of safeguarding adults in relation to medication administration.

At this point we will be able to list all the relevant legislations in the UK.

Types and categories of medication, routes of administration will be the subjects discussed next.

We will then describe to you what is a MAR chart and how to record information in it.

The following section will inform your how to administer and record information about Control drugs.

The next section will inform you about PRN medication, their administration and relevant records.

Over-the-counter medication will be the focus of the following section.

This will then be followed by a section which will be about the administration and record of homely remedies.

The next two sections will be about the safe administration of topical medication and how to administer and record information about transdermal patches.

We will then describe what should be done when placing an order and when receiving medication in a care setting.

Storage requirements of medication will be the next topic of our discussion.

At this juncture we will inform you about the process to be followed when a medication error happens.

We will then inform you what to do when the service user refuses to take the medication.

We will also inform you what to do when the service user has skipped a dose of their medication.

The next section will be about the safe return of refused, unwanted or damaged medication.

We will also inform you how long the medication and their records must be kept after the service user has stopped receiving care from the service provider.

Finally, we will conclude the course with an elaborate description of your role in safe administration of medication.

What will I learn? 

This course will provide you and/or your team with a clear understanding of basic terminology regarding medication administration, the importance of confidentiality and consent in the health and social care sector, types and categories of medication, routes of administration, relevant legislations in the UK, MAR charts, medicine reconciliation and communication; safe administration and of: Controlled drugs (CDs), Pro re nata (PRN) – “ When required medication ”, Over the counter medication (OTC), Homely remedies, Homely remedies, Topical medication and Transdermal patches. You and your team will also learn about the process to be followed when ordering the medication, when they are being received at the care setting, how to store them safely, what to do when: medication error happens, the service user refuses to take the medication, the service user has missed a dose of their medication. This course will also inform you about the process of safe return / disposal of unused, unfit or unwanted medication, how long the medication and the relevant records must be held onto after the service user has stopped receiving care from your company and finally the course will conclude with a comprehensive description of your / or your team’s role as care workers in safe administration of medication to the service users.
